There were others who hated him. From an article in Smithsonian Magazine, in which a 75% disapproval of him was discussed, we have the following: “…he had abandoned the incremental approach to social change of his civil rights protest days in favor of pursuing “a reconstruction of the entire society, a revolution of values…”.
Who is this we’re talking about? It’s the man whose life we celebrate on January 20th. At AMS Fulfillment we appreciate the message and the life of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
It has been more than 50 years since he lived and then was taken from the people. Have things changed? Has there been a revolution of values? The answer is yes there is progress, with much more to be overcome. He made a noble effort to change the world for the better and it had an impact. Over time, more and more people have made the decision – I will not deny a level playing field to another human being. His messages touched the world.
Today, in 2020, the number of businesses and corporations holding themselves to a higher standard is growing. AMS is a B Corporation with a legal commitment to diversity, equity, respect for employees and the community, and respect for the environment. And there are many other B Corps. B Corporation (B is for ‘Benefit’) is a movement that started in 2006. Today we see it as a leading edge, supported by consumers, employees, executives and boards of directors who want to see a revolution in values. Of course we care for our clients, and growth and profit. And we balance that with diversity, fairness and respect for our employees, our communities and our environment. We don’t just say it, we legally commit to it and do it every day. AMS and many others have realized that business can succeed best by incorporating all of these things.
We hope this day is one of reflection and gratitude for a man who met the challenges of his time with great courage. Thank you Dr. King.
